Andromeda galaxy appears enlarged by swallowing stars from other galaxies, such research results.

When a team of scientists mapped Andromeda, they found the stars they say are “the remnants of dwarf galaxies”. The astronomers reported their findings in the journal Nature.

Eating the stars had been predicted previously, but this survey team provides detailed pictures to show it happened. Figure it shows “hierarchical model” the formation of galaxies is running.

The model predicts that large galaxies Messiah would be surrounded by the remains of a smaller galaxy that they consume. Among scientists to map in detail the outskirts of Andromeda for the first time.

Pauline Barmby, an astronomer from the University of Western Ontario who are involved in this study, told the BBC that the pattern of stars that originally revealed. “Andromeda was so close that we can map all the stars,” he said.
